Symi has beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters, almost all of which have pebbles and little or no sand. Most can only be reached by boat, the famous taxi boats that make several trips during the day and of course start from Yialos. There are also several boats that organize day trips to remote beach es for swimming and dining.
The only beach within walking distance is NOS, five minutes from the clock tower on the edge of Yialos. By car, we can drive to Nimporio, Pedi, and Marathounda, but the boat ride in the summer is indeed more enjoyable. A short description of the beaches of the island.
Beach NOS
Small beach, for those who want to stay in Gialos. It offers sun loungers, parasols, a shower and a caf é -restaurant.
Nimporio
Small beach, in the homonymous bay , with sun loungers and a tavern. Access by boat or by road.
Pedi
At this beach, you can find the largest hotel of Sy mi and many summer accommodations. It is organized and has taverns and cafes. Accessible by boat, car or bus, 4 km from Gialos.
Agia Marina
Further east we find this small, characteristic beac h with the island at the entrance of the bay, which makes it unique. It is sandy, equipped with sun loungers and has a bar-restaurant. Accessible on foot, 40 minutes away from Pedi, but is not recommended to walk if the temperature is high.
Agios Nikolaos
Walking distance from Pedi 20 minutes, also acces sible by boat, a popular beach with sand and pebbles, natural shade, t avern, and bar. It is favored by families with small children because the sea graduall y gets deeper. There are sun loungers and umbrellas to rent, though many people pref er the natural shade of the trees. You can buy cold drinks, beer, water and food from the tavern.
Agios Georgios Dysalonas
With pebbles and deep blue water, it is the isla nd’s most spectacular beach as the cliffs drop steeply behind t he beach. Many consider this beach the best of Symi and one of the most impressiv e in the Aegean. The 300 meter high, vertical rock that stands behind this beach cre ates a fantastic landscape for the visitors. The beach takes its name from the chapel of Agios Georgios, which was built on the edge of the rock and the name “Dysalonas” me ans inaccessible. Dysalonas is accessible only from the sea and has no taverns or ot her facilities. So you have to be prepared and have water, food and all the other necess ities. Guests arrive by taxi boat, but also sailboats and yachts prefer this beach.
Nanou
It is a beautiful, picturesque pebble beach in a gre en landscape with cypresses and is accessible by taxi boat or on foot, the latt er takes 30 – 45 minutes. Nanou is a long beach hidden behind high hills, with wonderful ly clear water, excellent for diving. It is a quieter beach than Agios Nikolaos, a nd the absence of sand makes it less popular with families with children. There are man y umbrellas and sun loungers and a tavern.
Marathunda
A narrow bay with pebbles and crystal clear water. The beach is accessible from the road and is the last stop of the – taxi boat just before the bay of Panormitis, which is only two kilometers away. It is the last beach of Symi, which experienced development in tourism. An attraction of the beach has become the many goats that run around between the visitors. The small and calm bay is protected from the wind, and therefore the crystal clear turquoise wat er is almost always quiet so that the conditions are perfect for swimming and diving. Th ere is also a tavern as well as sun loungers and parasols.

Agios Basileios
One of the most beautiful beaches with pebbles and a bit of sand, in a beautiful location, without umbrellas or other facil ities, so you have to have the necessary things with you. At the beach, there are so me trees for a bit of shade. The beach of Agios Vasilios is not reached by taxi boat (except on some days during the high season). If you want to visit the beach, it is o nly accessible on foot, but the walk takes about two hours. Because it is so remote and qu iet, it is an ideal beach for nudists. The last part of the route to the beach is a bit steep and needs attention.
Agios Emilianos
A picturesque beach in a place where the land narrows to form an island on which there is a church.
Toli
A pebble beach on the north side of the island, w hich has become accessible to visitors in recent years, is accessible from the road or for the more adventurous with a long hike. Taxi boats will not come here for the time being. There are a tavern, sun loungers and an excellent sea for swimming.
